Abstract

A plate of heat resistant glass used in a cooker or a pan is made in sections. Radiant heat is supplied below the plate and the heat passes through the glass to the top. The lower section of the glass is transparent to wavelengths between 0.7 and 5mu m. The upper section is bonded to the lower one. It is considerably thinner than the lower section. It absorbs radiation in the wavelength range 0.7-5 mu m. Used in glass plates or pans used for cooking. Heat transfer through the top section is by conduction. This lowers the temp. of the top surface and reduces burning of material in contact with it. Heat is not reflected back to its source so that a temp. regulator at the source is not heated and the heat supply is uninterrupted.
