Abstract

The gear (1) of a road vehicle tachometer is mounted on the hollow shaft (3) and rotates on the bearing (4). This gear (1) meshes with a second gear (5) mounted on the shaft (6) which also carries the disc (7). The disc (7) is attached to the shaft (6) by friction but allows the shaft (6) to rotate when the friction torque is overcome. The disc (7) is provided with a slot (8) which receives the end (9) of the leaf spring (10) which is anchored to the framework of the mechanism. The spring (10) exerts a torque on the disc (7) in the opposite direction to which the with a dumbell shaped cross-section. A suitable lubricant is placed in the concave portions of the ring to facilitate the installation of the ring over the stepped dia. (13) of the male end of the concrete pipe (12). The female end (15) of the concrete pipe (12) is provided with a chamfer (15b) to allow it to slide more easily over the ring (1). This operation is helped still further by the lubricant on the surface of the sealing ring (1). The shape of the ring (1) can also accommodate greater dimensional variation in the concrete pipes than is possible with O-rings.
