Abstract

The automatic signal is used on an electrically operated model railway to control two trains on the same line. The track is divided into sections (Y,Z), the rear train (Z) being held until the front train (Y) has passed into another section further on. The signal comprises an electromagnetic coil (C) fed from the current supply which bypasses the controlled sections. As the first train enters the front section, the passage of current energises the coil and operates an arm, this breaking the contacts (E) for the rear section, isolating it. A pivoting lever selectively obscures a bulb (G) which illiminates the correct coloured signals.
