Abstract
A rotary impregnating or casting device comprises one or more moulds, each intended for housing an article to be impregnated or embedded in resin. These moulds can be rotated (centrifuged) about a central axis and supplied from a synchronously revolving central chamber with the casting resin. The moulds are all heated. Each mould is pivotally mounted upon an axis which is transverse to the rotational axis of the system. The moulds can thus swing between an at-rest position, in which their centre of gravity is immediately below their axis of rotation and an operating position in which they swing outwards under centrifugal force. This brings each mould inlet duct into pressurised contact with the outlet from the synchronously revolving central chamber, and enables the resin to flow outwards from the chamber into the mould. The outward centrifugal swing of each mould as the entire system revolves forcibly applied its inlet to the outlet from the chamber and forms a sealed contact between them. Used e.g. for embedding in resin small electrical components such as rotors, windings and the like. The moulds are easily accessible and easy to open. The articles to be impregnated can be simply placed in each mould and do not need to be specially supported in position. Since the only physical contact between each mould and the central chamber is a sealing ring of thermally insulating material, the transmission of heat from the mould into the synchronously revolving distribution chamber is minimised, thus preventing premature hardening of the resin in the distribution chamber. No heating flame or bell for moulds is necessary.
