Abstract

The insert (1) has two sides (5, 6) and a back (7, 8) which are parallel to the walls of the hearth and fit closely to them. The sides and back are double walled to form a narrow rectangular channel which runs round three sides of the hearth. The front edges (9, 10) are closed but each has an opening (2, 3) in it. One of these (2) is in the lower part of one edge and the other one (3) is in the upper part of the other edge. Natural convection draws room air in at the lower opening and discharges it back into the room through the upper opening. The insert is transportable and has feet (4) which rest on the base (14) of the hearth.
