Abstract

The surface profiles of the crown zones of the tread blocks are relieved at a shallow angle or depth over most or all of the surface. They are for tyres for vehicles carrying heavy loads. The tread surface can readily deform slightly if impinging on high points on the road surface or terrain. The deformation reduces local compressive and shear stress concentrations and hence damage due to 'peeling'.
