Abstract

An earthing rod assembly, for overhead power lines, improving the main patent, is part of the in-situ contacting device. This allows the earthing rod to remain on the mast and for it to be moved simply by the operating rod from 'standby' to 'earth' is required. The line engineer has therefore no need to carry around rods of different lengths in order to earth a line. The earthing rod is held at the top of the mast, parallel to it, and moved upwards when pushed by the operating rod below. Its upper end touches the line contact and earths the line via the conducting part of the mast beneath the insulator.
