Abstract

Sunscreening compsns. for use on the body contain the usual UV filters (I) and additionally a 1-6C alkyl cinnamate (II), esp. ethyl cinnamate. Typically (I) and (II) are both 1-10 esp. 2-6 % of the compsn. (II) are antiinflammatories and protect against Sunstroke. Thus it is possible to use (I) which do not absorb all the light which is responsible for tanning (and simultaneously for erythema). A suitable (I) is 3-(p-methylbenzylidene)-O, L-campher. In an example 40g this cpd. and 50g ethyl cinnamate were combined with 720g usual ointment base components, then blended with water, borax and methyl p-hydroxybenzoate to give an anti-sunburn creax.
