Abstract

A fluorescent lighting unit to hold one or more tubes, has a backplate (1) with one or more openings (7) in it running in the lengthwise direction. The electrical fittings and connection for the fluorescent tubes are secured in place by fittings engaging in the openings, which can also hold the tube support brackets. The openings can furthermore be used to hold the mountings for a raised portion above the tube mountings, and the brackets securing the backplate to the ceiling etc. The backplate can be an oblong extruded strip, while each opening is the mouth of a channel in the strip.
