Abstract
The spherical rocket engine casing (1) carries a nozzle (3) supported by a thermal insulation ring (4). The solid fuel is cast inside the spherical casing in the form of a lining (5a) of thickness (e). Additional fuel is formed into a cylinder (5b) of diameter (2e) and attached to the upper part of the sphere leaving a combustion space (2) between its lower face (S1) and and the nozzle (3). A third quantity of fuel is formed into four blocks (5c) and fitted around the cylinder (5b). This arrangement of the fuel in a spherical housing provides a low ratio of structure to fuel weight and also ensures good combustion with a minimum residue to unburnt fuel.
