Abstract

A mining system employs inflatable tubes in place of conventional mine supports, particularly where existing spaces or galleries are to be refilled with waste material. Where a seam has been exposed, the tube can be positioned near the exposed face and inflated, and waste material deposited around its outside, which includes cement. Afterwards the tube can be removed, the mineral extracted, and the whole space afterwards be refilled. The filling material can be refuse. After this process has been carried out, the whole process can be repeated at another level underneath, then further levels. Material can be passed through a tube while still empty, and conveyed through channels to a lower level. Various designs of tube include one with an inner layer carrying a set of pockets along its outside which can be filled with hardening material.
