Abstract

A miniature knitting machine known under the name of "Tricotin", intended for making continuous knitted tubes or sheaths, has a housing closed below by a hand grip, and above by a cover through which a needle guide partly held by the housing projects. An axial passage reaches from the top of the needle guide to the bottom outlet of the hand grip. It has a set of latch needles with butts and a mechanism inside the housing rotated by a handle outside, which sets up the vertical reciprocating motion of the needles for forming the stitches at the upper opening of the needle guide; the knitted tube descending through the axial passage. An interchangeable ring slides into and rests on the top edge of the needle guide opening, its height determining the size of the stitches and the diameter of the knitted tube. The mechanism for vertically reciprocating the needles includes the usual spiral groove working with the needle butts, and formed by two complementary ramps, the one on the machine housing and the other on the top cover cylinder. The drive similarly is effected by bevels at 90 degrees to each other. The one is moulded integrally with the needle guide and forms its base, whilst the other turns inside a recess in the housing closed by a cover clipping securely into place. The size of stitch can be varied and maintained uniformly automatically. The number of parts is reduced, the new design lending itself to mass production by casting or injection, and easy assembly.
