Abstract

When the pad (10) hits a stationary object, the arm (6) rotates causing an electrical current to pass across the contacts (11, 12) to illuminate driver warning light. spring (17) returns the arm to its protruding position when the pad is no longer touching the obstacle. When not in use, the mechanism can be retracted by a cable (16), which rotates it about a vertical axis (5) to lie flush with the vehicle body.
