Abstract

The base for electric light bulbs is designed to minimise the cost of assembly of the base to the glass bulb and its filament wires. The end of the bulb (10) through which electrical connection is made is tapered to a blunt cone through which the filament wires (22) connections are brought out and are folded back over the cone surface. The cup shaped base (12) of some mouldable polycarbonate or polyamide has two longitudinal gaps (14) in its perimeter to provide keying to the glass bulb. Two inward facing semicircles (11) of material on the bulb side of the base key into a shaped annular groove in the bulb itself to provide further keying. Electrical leads (20) in the base provide a solderless connection to the filament.
