Abstract

An apparatus for inspecting the outside of a nuclear pressure vessel, using ultrasonics and/or television, comprises a revolving ring which encompasses the vessel and can rotate around it relative to a supporting ring, pref. with rollers between them to form a very large roller bearing; the whole assembly is raised or lowered by cable drives pref. attached to the supporting ring and carries, on its telescopic arm, various inspection and test heads. The positions of the heads are shown by indicator instruments. A revolving drive pref. operates the ring. The vertical movement is pref. provided by a motor drive to a winch with a slip clutch for lowering. The min. number of cables is three. Used for initial and in-service inspection of vessels.
