Abstract
The optical short-circuit device is electrically controlled and has application in an optoelectronic repeater. It includes a variable reflection electro-optic element (31) through which the input light beam (2) passes. Depending on the voltage (Vs) applied to this electro-optic element (31), the input beam (2I) is directed into one of two paths (2E or 20I); one path 20I) includes a signal treatment stage (1). The electro-optic element (31) is partially transparent in the presence of the control voltage (Vs) and totally reflecting in the absence of this voltage. It may include a liquid crystal cell having a thin film of nematic material between the two parallel faces of two transparent prisms. These faces have electrodes deposited on them.
