Abstract

A nose cone for a supersonic missile has a double skin acting as the two contacts which electrically explode the charge, with the outer skin made of soft iron or steel and the inner skin made of copper, preferably the inner skin being thicker than the outer skin. This combination gives good operating results, with reduced contact time and good maintenance of contact. A copper layer is preferably electro-deposited on the inside of the outer skin, and contact is improved by silver plating, gilding or depositing a thin rhodium layer on one of the contact surfaces. The thicker layer preferably carries a set of ridges. At the rear of the nose is a set of connections which may use a printed circuit panel, and with a set of toric joints. Prefered materials for this part are specified.
