Abstract

An ethylenically unsaturated monomer, oligomer and/or prepolymer vehicle is photopolymerised with UV radiation. Vehicle contains 0.2-0.9 pts. opacifying pigment per 1 pt. vehicle and as sensitiser (i) 0.5-4 wt.% w.r.t. vehicle, of thioxanthone of formula (I) (where R1 and R2 are H, Cl, Br, OH, NH2 or lower alkyl), and (II) 0.3-6 wt.% on vehicle of an activated halogenated naphthalene. Efficient use of 3200-4000 A degree UV radiation for cold curing is achieved with very short exposure times, avoiding volatilisation of paint, degration of coatings or substrates. The compsn. may be a paint, enamel, stain, ink, etc.
