Abstract

Impregnation/coating of products, esp. wood-based panels with curable aminoplast and/or phenoplast precondensates is effected with the help of a support sheet, esp. of paper, provided with a barrier layer, e.g. of methylcellulose, polyacrylic ester, PVA, or casein. During impregnation of the support sheet, the barrier layer is permeable towards air and aqs. solns. of the precondensates, but during pressing prevents the molten precondensate resting on the barrier layer from flowing into the support sheet. Gives prods. with high gloss surfaces. These are free of pores and other blemishes, even when low pressure pressing is used. Easy, rapid process effected without use of an overlay.
