Prepns. with hypolipaemic and cholesteraemic activity contain novel phenylacetic acid derivs. of formula (I): (in which X and Y are each halogen, esp. F or Cl; R = OH, 1-4C alkoxy or R1-NH-CnH2n-O; 1,2,3 or 4; R1 = H or R2CO-; R2 = 1-4C alkyl or R4NH-; R4 = H, -CmH2mOH or R5O; m = 1,2 or 3; R5 = CmH2m; CmH2m-N(R2)2; -CmH2m-COOR2 or (CH2)p-Z; p = 0 or 1; Z = opt. satd. 6-membered ring which may contain 1 N-atom and is opt. substd. with 1-3 methyl). (I) are suitable in the treatment of disorders of fat-metabolism, esp. atherogenic hyperlipaemia.
