Abstract

In a process for successively washing and sterilising the passages of a haemodialyser; all necessary operations are carried out fully automatically in a programmed cycle which includes an automatic tesst for leaks between washing and sterilising. The stages are pref. (1) simultaneous flushing with filtered water through both blood circuit and rinsing fluid circuit, (2) press flushing an oxidising soln. such as javelle water through the blood circuit, (3) reflushing both circuits with filtered water, (4) testing blood circuit pressure for leaks with compressed inert gas, any loss of pressure signalling a fault and flushing sterilising soln. such as formalin through both circuits. Used for completely automatic washing and sterilizing of artificial kidneys prior to utilisation by patients. Allows greatly increased utilisation of limited number of haemodialysers.
