Abstract

A beet harvester designed to keep the cleaning wheels free from mud in wet conditions has the digger supported on skids (11). Shares (13) dig the beet which fall on to cleaning wheels (15, 17). These wheels have hubs (21), curved spokes (23) and rims (25). They are surrounded by grilles (29) which slow the beet down below the speed of rotation of the spokes, thus causing a cleaning effect. Grilles (31, 33, 35) guide the beet over the cleaning wheels. A cleaning cylinder which can replace the grill (31) ensures that the beet are still correctly routed, and brushes the surface of wheels (15, 17) by means of rubber strips, removing any accumulation of mud, etc.
