Abstract

A catalyst compsn. for the (co)polymn. of olefine comprises (a) an organolithium initiator and (b) a cocatalyst comprising (1) a Ba or Sn cpd. and (2) an organometallic cpd. of a Sp II B or III A metal. The catalyst is partic. suitable for the polymn. of dienes or their copolymsn. with vinylaromatic cpds. The polymers have a high content of 1, 4-trans structure and a low content of 1,2 or 3,4 structure when the catalyst is added at the start of the polymn. or different or progressive steric configuration along the polymer chain depending on the mode of addition of the catalyst components. The polymers are rubbery materials compared to similar prior art prods.
