Abstract

The electrical resistance thermometer has an ohmic material sensitive to temperature place on a rigid, cylindrical, hollow mandrel which is porous or perforated and open at one of its extremities. The ohmic material is electrically isolated from the mandrel (when this is made from a conducting material). An external metallic sheath is provided together with a ceramic cement around the thermosensitive ohmic material which is placed within the sheath. The mandrel is pref. coated with a ceramic cement incorporating aluminium or magnesium oxide subsequently treated with phosphoric acid. Around the cement is a serpentine winding of resistance wire, typically very pure platinum.
