Abstract

The filler tube for vehicle fuel tanks allows air to escape whilst fuel is flowing in. The tube (1) is formed in plastics and is divided into two unequal passages by a web (2), the larger passage passing fuel and the smaller passage passing air. The outer wall around the smaller passage is cut off at some distance above the bottom end of the tube and the whole tube is held by a flexible sleeve (7) and clamps (8, 9) in an oversize union (6) welded to the tank (5). A connecting space (10) is thus formed between the top inner face of the tank and the air passage (4), whilst the fuel passage may project down into the tank. At the top, the web (2) of the tube is cut off short of the entry (11) so that it is not damaged by insertion of a petrol pump delivery nozzle.
