Abstract
Continuous lengths of matl. ranging from fibrous webs and paper to polymer films or sheets, ready formed, possibly expanded into a cellular structure or extruded and stretched from a mixt. of a linear polymer with an expanding agent, fed directly from the extruder, are perforated by electrical discharges. The run is passed through an electrode system consisting of a first and second electrode between which there is a high frequency potential difference. Electrical discharges take place between the points of the first and second electrode which are in the closest proximations. At least one electrode is rotated and is formed so that a zone on its surface which at any monent is closest to the surface of the other electrode, approaches in a direction having a component parallel to the axis of rotation. Severe corrosion of the electrodes causing irregularities of the pattern, are avoided. The gap between the electrodes does not allow energy to be absorbed but is adequate for the passage of the goods without possibility of damage.
