Abstract

A sheath for one or more optical fibres comprises a yarn winding (e.g. helical/ or braiding around each optical fibre optical fibres being immersed in a viscous material contained in a thin rigid inextensible sleeve. The sheath is strong, protects the fibres and also reduces loss of light transmission through the fibres. The viscous material reduces vibration.
