Abstract

Additives for improving the low-temp. characteristics of petroleum distillates and crude oil comprise hydrogenated copolymers of 1,3-butadiene with at least one other 5-8C conjugated diene, the copolymer having a microstructure comprising >50% (pref. >90%) of units formed by 1,4-addn., having a Mn of 500-20,000 (pref. 1000-10,000) contg. 20-90 (pref. 40-70) mole % of butadiene, and having a degree of unsatn. of 5%. The additives are esp. useful for lowering the limiting filterability temp. (LFT) of middle distillates (gas oils and fuel oils). The specification is an addition to 7336454, in which similar copolymers contg. 20-100% butadiene and having a degree of unsatn. of >=5% are described. The prefd. additives are practically totally hydrogenated copolymers of butadiene with isoprene or 1,3-pentadiene. The additives are pref. used in an amt. of 0.001-0.1 (esp. 0.005-0.05) wt.%.
