Abstract

A dynamic safety circuit for a nuclear reactor comprises an ionisation chamber as sensor, A D.C. amplifier, an upper limit indicator, and a power switching stage to emit a command or signal when the neutron flux or gamma flux detected by the ionisation chamber exceeds a given value. The H.T. source comprises also a low-amplitude A.C. emitter which superimposes a periodic (square wave) voltage; the periodic monitoring signal is decoupled from the output signal of the D.C. amplifier and is supplied to the upper limit indicator; if this periodic monitoring signal is absent, i.e. if the circuit is faulty, a relay on the output side of the indicator triggers an alarm. Pref. the monitoring signal is decoupled by a high pass filter and shaped by a pulse shaper. The A.C. emitter is pref. supplied from the H.T. source. For a reactor safety circuit, the arrangement is self-monitoring. Whenever the super-imposed, square-wave signal is absent, the alarm is triggered.
