Abstract

To measure the reactivity (i.e. polymerisation or polycondensation speed) of a resin a sample of the rsin is maintained in a container at a temp. above its melting point and the changes in viscosity of the resin or changes of another property dependent on viscosity are continually measured by a viscometer and plotted. The inflexions in the resulting plot of e.g. viscosity against time show the points at which there is a change in the phase (i.e. physical state) of the resin occur. The reactivity of a resin at a given temp. can be accurately determined without relying on subjective observations of testing personnel.
