Abstract

The base unit (11) contains a chamber bordered by a side wall and open towards the flat inner surface. A compressible contact body (23) in the chamber forms an electrical path between the contact (20, 24) for the inner and outer electrode surfaces and the skin bying beneath it. At least one projection (19) extends inwards from the sidewall holding the contact body (23) in position inside the chamber. Pref. this body (23) is a sponge-like material impregnated with an electrically conducting liquid or gel. The projections (19) are arranged in diametrically opposite pairs along the chamber circumference. The projections hold the contact body securely in place whilst the spongy body ensures good contact with the skin.
