Abstract

2-Hydroxypropyl desoxyvincaminate (I) is prepd. by the following process (i) vincamine is dehydrated to form apovincamine, (ii) this is hydrogenated to form desoxyvincamine, (iii) this is saponified to form disoxyvincaminic acid, and (iv) converted to an alkali metal salt and reacted with 1-halo-2-propanol. The process gives good yields in all stages, and may be carried out on an industrial scale.
