Abstract
The coupling or brake has a toroidal coil embedded in the external rotor in the conventional way. The internal rotor is supported by a non-magnetic sleeve (10) which protects the bearings (9) from eddy currentss. The finish of this is superior to that of materials normally used. The bearings have an internal bore of the largest possible size. The bearings are mounted in non-magnetic cheeks, and can be removed externally. Their outer rings are held by a plastic joint. Removing the bearings does not involve stripping of other parts. As an alternative a non-magnetic shaft may be employed.
