Abstract

Cephalosporins of formula (I) are new: (where R1 = H, alkyl, phenylalkyl (pref. PhCH2 or PhCH2-CH2); R2 = H, alkyl, Ph (opt. OH substd.), thienyl, furyl, pyridyl; R3 = H, alkyl, phenylalkyl, Ph2CH, Me3Si, or (as salt forming ion) Al, alkali(ne earth) metal, alkylamine, phenylalkylamine, N-alkylpiperidine, CH2OCOR4; R4 = alkyl, phenylalkyl, Ph; X = alkyl etc. = 1-8c pref. 1-4C). (I) are broad spectrum antibiotics that give prolonged high blood levels on oral administration. (I) may also be used for disinfecting dairy equipment, etc., and as a nutritional supplement in animal feeds.
