Abstract

Composite material for use in thermally insulating packaging. The material is made of layers of cellular material between layers of different materials giving structural rigidity or being impervious to light, or being of a weldable plastic, depending on requirements. In order to prevent the creation of preferential heat paths because of coincidence of the cellular meshes, different sizes of mesh are used for the layers, or they are deliberately offset. The pressure in the closed cells can be below atmospheric to improve the insulation.
