Abstract

A support piece (5), adjustable in height (11, 12, 15), carries a compressed air jet (4), which is just above the top sheet, and directed down towards it at an acute angle (A). The support piece is attached to a plate (7), also at an acute angle to the surface, but sloping in the opposite direction to the air jet. Pulses of compressed air through the jet impart an undulating movement to the top sheet, so that its end is lifted on to a support (8), whence it can be easily recovered. A variation has the support (8) movable under the influence of an electro magnet, so that the sheet can be gripped between the support and the plate.
