Abstract

4-Methylesculetyl di-alkanoates of formula (I) are new (where R is 5-24C alkyl, opt. satd. or unsatd). Specif. claimed are the di-pauluitate, di-laurate and di-caprylate. (I) are local antiinflammatory agents. The increased lipophilic nature of the esters facilitates penetration of the cpds. through the skin. The original esculoside has no topical activity. Maximal activity is reached for satd. esters when R has 11C, and for unsatd. esters when R has 13C.
