Abstract

A sodium-sulphur cell has a cathodic compartment (10) a positive collector (14, 16) an anode compartment (2), a negative collector (2), and a solid electrolyte forming separation walls (12) between the cathode (10) and anode (8) the walls passing ions formed by the anode reaction, whilst being an insulant for the electrons. The electrolyte (12) forms the lateral surfaces of a number of prisms whose corners are all parallel to the same direction, some of the faces and corners being common. Certain of the prisms consists of cathodic elements forming part of the cathode compartment (10) others consists of anode elements forming part of the anode compartment (12). The parts of the lateral faces common to a cathode element and to an anode element forms the separation walls (12). The generator has two insulating ceramic plates (6, 18) between which are the prisms formed by the electrolyte (12). These plates have slots in them into which the ends of the prisms are fixed by glass sealing.
