Abstract

Desensitiser for pressure-sensitive recording sheets consists of >=1 reaction prod. (I) having av. mol. wt >=500 and prepd. by (1) addn. of ethylene oxide and/or propylene oxide to NH3, alkylamines, alkylene amines, alkenyl amines arylamines or cyclic amines, until no more active H is present in NH3 or amines, and then (2) etherifying or esterifying >=25 (>=50)% of terminal OH gps. of adduct chain formed with at least one oxiran deriv. such as glycidyl ethers, glycidyl esters, alkylene oxides and aromatic oxiran derivs. at least one alkyl halide or at least one acyl halide. Used esp. for spot-desensitising sheets sensitised with acid reactants as colour-formers, acting as electron acceptors in a colour-forming reaction between an electron donor and an electron acceptor. (I) are water-repellent, odourless, have good solubility in carrier for printing ink compsns. high stability and resistance to migration even at high temps. and humidity. Desensitising is complete. No colour image is formed on sheet, not even under applied press.
