Abstract

The shackle e.g. for connecting two ends of a chain, has two U-shaped members connected together by a pin passing through eyes in the free ends of the members. The sleeve is on the part of the pin extending across the gap between the free ends and has a counterbore contg. a spring engaging the end face of the counterbore and a groove in the pin. The remainder of the counterbore is closed by a ferrule. The sleeve is held in position while the pin is inserted into the eyes, the spring snapping into the groove when the pin is home.
