Abstract

Vertical cylindrical, water treatment vessel of the type with a top spray entry for water to be treated which is heated by a countercurrent of steam as it enters a mixing funnel to mix with added treatment chemicals the resultant suspension flowing down the funnel outlet to a clarifying chamber at the bottom of the vessel. Settled sludge can be periodically drawn off at a valve while clarified water rises via sedimentation baffles into a treated water chamber between the baffle, barrier and the underside of funnel wall, the top of the treated water chamber being fitted with an outlet for treated water. The barrie is pref. made up of a set of narrowly-spaced, coaxial frusto-conical plate rings providing narrow rising channels from the clarifying chamber. Steam heated water treatment plant for supplying soft water to steam-raising boiler, and treating water for other applications demanding purified, deaerated, hot water. The slugde barrier is highly effective in allowing a greatly increased rising outflow of treated water while arresting sludge. Treatment capacity increased 50% compared with similar vessels of equal dia. The baffle rings are held between rigid channel frames.
