Abstract

A hydraulic braking system for a vehicle includes a valve which applies the brakes to two wheels on one side of the vehicle while cornering. When the steering wheel is turned, a toothed sector is swung so as to operate a rack and pinion drive which moves a valve slider arm so that a piston moves sideways from its central position. In the central position, hydraulic fluid travels through a delivery line, into a valve chamber round the middle of the piston, and out through a delivery line to operate all the brakes. In the sideways position, the fluid travels from the chamber around another part of the piston, and out through an end discharge part, so that the brakes on that side are applied, actuated by the brake pedal.
