Abstract
The barrage maintains the water level in an upper reach and automatically opens to provide flood relief and is then reclosed by a manual winch. The barrage lowering operation is initiated by a float, elevated by the flood, which actuates the opening of a flat valve and permits water under pressure to pass through a conduit from the upper water level to the lower level. This conduit directs water onto the vanes of a turbine (23) which is connected via a chain and pinions to the barrange controlling winch. The conduit has a coupling joined to the turbine flange (38), the turbine having two feed channels (39, 40) onto the bottom of the turbine.
