Abstract

Mobile furnace hearth consists of a metal chassis covered by refractories and with rolling elements permitting the chassis to run on rails into the furnace. The hearth also has (a) driving wheels running on the ground and parallel with the wheels running on the rails; (b) means connecting the wheels to the hearth permitting a range of vertical displacement of the wheels; (c) means for supporting the wheels on the ground; and (d) means for driving the wheels. The driving wheels are pref. equipped with rubber tyres on metal rim and driven by hydraulic motors; double cradles are pref. employed to carry pairs of axles on which the wheels are mounted. Used e.g. for heat treatment of very large castings, boiler parts or in the ceramic ind.
