Abstract

The kiln heating block of electrical heating elements buried in an insulating brick of fire-clay, is suitable for mass production. The fireclay block (1) is formed around two helical resistance wires (2) running the length of the block and emerging as lugs (3) for electrical connection. The block is made up initially using traditional methods with two cylindrical paths moulded in. The two prepared heating coils are inserted and the whole hydraulically pressed such that the material occupies the space in the coil. The block is then fired normally. The space may be filled by some ceramic or magnesium based powder using vibration to ensure complete filling and damping of noise arising from an AC supply.
