Abstract

A wheel speed detector (1) comprises a cylindrical ferro-magnetic element (3) with teeth (4) and which forms part of a tubular assembly (6) which is an integral part of the disc (2). The tubular assembly is also integral with a m ounting plate (7) with holes (8) for mounting on the wheel axis. A magnetic detector (d) is mounted away from the friction surface (5) of the disc to avoid heating effects and is at a fixed distance (e) from the teeth. The teeth cause a variation of the magnetic field to which the detector is sensitive so pulses are generated which are proportional to the speed of rotation of the wheel.
