Abstract

The grating (1) is built up from standard channel sections (2) with the flanges (3) provided with holes (4). Tubular spacers (5) made of moulded plastic or of light alloy are provided with four tongues at each end. These tongues are forced inwards when the spacer (5) is pushed through the hole (4) and then spring outwards to grip the edge of the hole in a groove behind the tongue. Any number of sections (2) can be assembled to make a grating of the required size. The sections (2) may be of box sections with a rounded nose (2') or they may be solid bars. With solid bars, the holes (4) are so arranged that the spacers (5) are staggered in alternate gaps between bars.
