Abstract

Novel tretraphenyl diaminodimethyl ether of formula Ph2N-CH2-O-CH2-NPh2 (I) is prepd. by reacting HCHO and HNPh2 in pref. HCHO:HNPh2 mol. ratios 0.85-1.5 (1-1.2):1, at 1-150 (90-110) degrees C, esp. at 45 degrees C and partic. at room temp., advantageously in the absence of solvents. The cpd. is an anti-oxidant for organic materials, e.g. fats, oils, but esp. polymers, e.g. polyolefins, other polymers of ethylenically unsatd. cpds., and natural or synthetic rubber. Rubber vulcanisates contg. (I) resist heat ageing and tearing on bending.
