Abstract

When a helicopter is in flight near the ground, the pilot may act upon the blade pitch and carry out corrections different to those which would be carried out by compensators, but when at altitude the pilot may safely abandon manual control in favour of automatic control by the compensators. These improvements are due to (1) a compensator actuator in which a hole is bored through the piston causing a loss in the force acting upon the piston which is connected to the manual control (2). A manual collective pitch control for both main and tail rotors, not dependent upon the aircraft engines (3). Primary compensators for assisting manual collective pitch control of the main rotor and secondary compensators for assisting manual tail rotor collective pitch control of the main rotor and secondary compensators for assisting manual tail rotor collective pitch control, both being sensitive to the pressure of a fluid from a pump driven by the helicopter engine.
