The book comprises alternating cheques and counterfoils, the latter of the same dimensions as the cheques, and everything written on the cheque is automatically copied onto the counterfoil, either via an intermediate layer or by using automatically-copying paper. The counterfoil can carry all the data appropriate to a counterfoil in place of those printed on the cheque, together with any instructions, publicity material etc which the banker considers appropriate.
